Birth Year?
[edit]According to iMDB and other sources, she was born in 1961, not 1962. Can anyone verify? OwenX 19:43, 22 May 2005 (UTC)
Birthplace
[edit]Also, most sources claim her birthplace was Vancouver, BC, not Edmonton, AB. Can someone verify? OwenX 22:58, 28 May 2005 (UTC)
According to Contemporary Theatre, Film and Television, Volume 45. Gale Group, 2002 and Who's Who Among African Americans, 18th ed. Gale, 2005.: Birth: February 28, 1961 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Gamaliel 02:56, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks, Gamaliel! This sounds definitive enough. OwenX 13:30, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Nick of Time
[edit]I thought Rae Dawn Chong played in this movie. It appears to be Gloria Reuben. Meursault2004 23:06, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Just Another Night
[edit]Didn't she star in a movie with Mick Jagger that had a rather explicit sex scene between them? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mfbinc (talk • contribs) 05:00, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Not a movie, but I'm sure that's Jagger's music video "Just Another Night", some time in the 1980's I think. It's probably somewhere on the web. JH49S (talk) 07:03, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Skimpy
[edit]This article seems skimpy, given the many movies in which Rae Dawn has acted. For example, the name of her first husband is missing (it is Owen Baylis). Little is said about her education or interests. I hope that someone who has access to good references will add to the article. David spector (talk) 01:11, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Not Much Personal Info in the Article
[edit]I found a profile of Chong from 1982 in People Magazine that contains a lot of background information on her early years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.205.10.87 (talk) 01:27, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
Real Mother
[edit]Rae Dawn Chong's natural mother is a woman named Gail Toulson as stated in both the Cheech and Chong Unauthorized Autobiography and a People article from 1982 found here:

I'm not that familiar with wikipedia edits so I'll leave it to someone else to edit the actual article.

US Citizen
[edit]I am sure that she is a US citizen, since she is on the voter list in the small New Hampshire town where she has lived for many years. 00:27, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Controversial Remarks About Oprah Winfrey
[edit]I have added a section about Chong's controversial remarks about Oprah Winfrey that she made in June, 2013. There are two references for the added material, one from USA Today and the other from the LA Times. I will leave it to others to decide how much weight this particular section should have in relation to the rest of the article about Chong.
Chong provoked controversy when spoke about Oprah Winfrey in an interview that Chong did on June 27, 2013 for Matty P's Radio Happy Hour when she said that Oprah is a "great brown-noser. If you're in a room with her, she'll pick the most powerful person and she'll become best friends with them." Chong said there was bad blood between them since Chong did Commando starring with Maria Shriver's husband in the movie. "That's when she was a total bioootch." Chong also had words of admiration for Winfrey. " I respect her and I say kudos to you and I don't give two cents about the other parts of it. She shifted the DNA in terms of our thinking of a woman of a certain size and a certain shape. I love her for that."[1] Chong later posted a video on youtube saying she was praising Winfrey, but her words got twisted by the media. "Out of context, it's a most unfortunate choice of words and I regret it," said Chong. "Do I take back everything I said? No."[2]

Career section
[edit]The Career section seems very brief considering the much later work detailed in the Filmography section below it. JezGrove (talk) 19:16, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

Sex with Jagger as Teenager - How She Got Role in Commando
[edit]Interesting interview with The Hollywood Reporter in which Chong mentioned that her appearance in Mick Jagger’s video for “Just Another Night” led to her breakout role in 1985’s Commando. When asked how she knew Jagger, Chong “accidentally blurted out that I’d had sex with him when I was 15. It just slipped out.”
“We were friends, put it that way, with benefits,” she continued. “I didn’t want to be with him. I thought he was old, but I thought he was interesting because he was Mick Jagger. You know you’re young, you’re just newly sexual — even though you are underage — and it was like, yeah, it was easy-peasy. Should I be more horrified?”[1]
“It didn’t traumatize me,” she insisted. “It wasn’t a #MeToo moment, it was something I empoweredly chose. I could have said no, I wasn’t forced, he didn’t ... I thought he was adorable, and I was just new at the whole thing. And he ... just like grabbed me and said, ‘You’re it.’ And like, I wanted to be it.” “He did nothing wrong. He didn’t make me do anything I didn’t want to do,” Chong added. “It was the 1970s, a different era. I wasn’t a victim. I don’t want him to get into trouble about this. It wasn’t traumatising. I knew what I was doing. I wasn’t an innocent schoolgirl. I always acted a lot older than I was. I was a grown-up at 15.”[2]
'Mick was very beautiful, very shy, very self-absorbed,' she recalls. 'He had great lips, he was a great kisser. He wasn't that much older than me in my brain. He was 33 and young and gorgeous with a nice body. It wasn't a bad thing, it was fabulous. Totally rock 'n' roll. He didn't make me do anything I didn't want to do, but he was very vain, always looking in the mirror.'[3]
Chong also disclosed in the interview with the Daily Mail that she was the result of a one-night stand between Chong and a Canadian woman called Abigail. I will leave it to others to decide whether to include any of this in the bio.
